About this Workshop "We must all do theatre – to find out who we are, and to discover who we could become"Augusto Boal Changing the status quo scares most people. If you belong to the one percent in the world that dream about change and believe it’s possible, this workshop is for you. Augusto Boal (1931-2009), the creator of Theatre of the Oppressed, described it as a rehearsal for life. This workshop will be useful if you are looking for a democratic and participatory pedagogy to use in your social, cultural or political work. It will also be useful if you are already familiar with TO, and wish to deepen your understanding and your practice. These 6 days will introduce you to the political, social and cultural philosophy underlying the practice of Theatre of the Oppressed (TO), using a wide variety of games and exercises. These will include structures such as Image Theatre, Forum Theatre, Cop in the Head, and Rainbow of Desire. Debrief sessions after games and exercises will discuss the theory and pedagogy behind the techniques. There will also be discussions of facilitation issues and brief practice sessions for participants. The training will include a community workshop and a public Forum performance. No theatre experience is necessary to join this training. All you need is imagination, and the desire to create change - in your own life, where you work, and in the world you live in. Maximum number of participants : 25 Timings : 10.00 AM - 5.30 PM Participants have to commit to be present full-time on all days of the workshop.
